I will always remember Tuesday, June 23, 2009, with a big smile. That was the day 300 friends, family, riders and sponsors gave a very, very special woman a surprise birthday party. That woman is Gale Webb, my sister. The day started as any other day when Gale was getting ready to put on her Gale Webb Extreme Sports and Air Show. It was a very warm day, and Gale and her husband Jim went to the show site – The Diamond, home of the Storm minor league baseball team. The Storm baseball team was hosting the minor league All-Star game. The President of the Storm, asked Gale to bring her show there. He told her he was also going to bring in athletes that competed in the XGames, for an autograph session. The Storm had a lot of things going on for their pre-game fun. Gale’s riders for the day were Willie, Mike, Matt, Dave, Sean, Austen, Tanner and Dakota, Hunter and Savannah. Little did Gale know, as we were preparing for the two shows, guests were arriving on the other side of the stadium – getting ready to surprise her during her last show. The anticipation of what was about to happen, almost made me sick. I just sat at the sound system with tears in my eyes, wondering how Gale would react when she saw all her riders from the past 25 years standing on her jump box. That wasn’t all! Also standing there would be representatives from all of her sponsors. Could we pull off the surprise? When we came to the end of the show – for the big finale – Dave Hacker from Sport Chalet – came out of the crowd, took Gale’s mic, turce the crowd – and made an ann can see it in my minby frame – then, we turned Gale around to face the surprise of her life time. There was so much emotion – crying, screaming, hugging, laughing all being done at the same time. It was beautiful. We were all there for Gale – our hero – our friend. The entire day was perfect, the party in The Diamond Club continued on long after the All-Star game ended. No one wanted this evening to end. I will always be grateful to the 300 friends who kept this party a secret for 2 months!!! Thanks to all of you for making this happen and for caring about Gale the way I do!!
